Online Demo - Print Tracking / Print Manager - Users Send Print Jobs to the Shared Printers on Windows / Unix / Linux Print Server (\\Printserver\Printer)

 

Step 1. On Windows print server, open "Devices and Printers", turn off "Render print jobs on client computers". In Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services, restart the Print Spooler Service.

Download and extract the 30-day trial version of Print Manager, then double click setup.exe to install the software.

Note: In Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services, Print Manager service is installed automatically. If not, click Print Manager memu Tools -> Install Print Manager service

 

Option 1 (recommended): Install Print Manager on your Windows print server        video

Option 1: Install Print Manager on your Windows print server

In this demo, Print Manager is installed on \\PrintServer with three shared printers: HP Designjet Z3100 44in Photo, HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6 and HP LaserJet 5000 Series PS.

Step 2. Click Start -> All Programs -> Printer Usage -> Print Manager Professional 11 to run the software. If Preferences window doesn't appear, click menu Print Jobs -> Preferences.

Step 3. Click Refresh, select the printers you want to monitor in the list of "Available Local / Network Printers" and click Add to add them to the list of "Monitored Printers", click Save, and then click Exit.

Step 4. All print jobs sent to these shared printers will be tracked.

Step 5. Click menu Print Jobs -> View Report or double click the shortcut "Print Log 4.0" on the desktop to run Print Log, then connect to the default database C:\Program Files\Printer Usage\Print Manager\PrintSaver.mdb.

Option 2: Install Print Manager on a computer that is not a Print Server e.g. \\CentralComputer

IIn this demo, there are three print servers  (Windows, Unix or Linux print server): server1, server2 and server3 in your network.   Add network printers to the computer \\CentralComputer that has Print Manager installed.

Step 2. Click Start -> Devices and Printers.

SStep 3. Click "Add a printer" button, and then click Next.

Step 4. Click the "A network printer...." option and follow the instructions on screen.

Note: You can also try the following to add network printer:

 

a. On the computer \\CentralComputer that has Print Manager installed, go to "search programs and files" on start icon, put the path to the print server (for example \\192.169.0.2\) and ENTER, then a list of printers on this server is listed

 

b. Click twice on the icon of a printer

 

c. Printer driver are being automatically installed

 

Step 5. The "network printer" icon will be added to your Devices and Printers folder.

Step 6. Click Start -> All Programs -> Printer Usage -> Print Manager Professional 11 to run the software. If Preferences window doesn't appear, click menu Print Jobs -> Preferences.

SStep 8. All print jobs sent to these network printers will be tracked.

Step 9.  In Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services --> Print Manager, change the Local System Account to your account that is currently logged into this computer and with which you installed the Print Manager software, then restart the Print Manager service.

Note: If you want to use a different user account to run Print Manager service, login to the Windows with that user account, go to "Devices and Printers" and add all network printers you want to monitor, then restart the Print Manager service. That user account must have administrator privileges to all network printers.

Step 10. Click Print Manager menu Print Jobs -> View Report or double click the shortcut "Print Log 4.0" on the desktop to run Print Log, then connect to the default database C:\Program Files\Printer Usage\Print Manager\PrintSaver.mdb.
